@museke : The funny thing is gospel is even sounding a lot like hiplife and highlife these days. Take a peek at the track listing for some popular CDs - track 1 is a highlife version of Song A and track 8 is the reggae version. Track 2 is the slow version of Song B and track 6 is the praises version. And they are all gospel songs.
@Bokoor African Popular Music Archives Foundation : An economic explanation for local popular music moving from the secular to the sacred is that during Ghana's economic slump of the 1970's the music industry almost collapsed. Many musicians moved abroad (4), whilst many of these who remained behind went under the patronage of the churches - who began to use popular dance music for outreach purposes.
@Music In Ghana : : Esther Smith said Gye No Di, the title song of her maiden album which took three awards at the 2003 GMA explains the difficulties and hardships she went through before the album was released.
